Hot Air Balloon Festival – Calloway Gardens – Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009   1 comment

We were up at the crack of dawn for the morning Hot Air Balloon launch.  It was a little windy and cool, but the launch was on.  After watching all the balloons launch we walked up to the beach pavillion for a pancake breakfast, then walked down to the end of the lake to watch the radio-controlled boat and plane races.  Next we decided to explore the gardens for awhile, driving to Mr. Cason’s vegetable garden.  This is a very pretty area with lots of plants and flowers.  Next we visited the butterfly house.  This is a very popular attraction and we didn’t get very many photos here.  We decided to head back to our hotel and rest up for a while before heading out again for the 6 PM Hot Air Balloon launch.  We ended the evening with dinner at the Calloway Gardens Country Kitchen Restaurant ( think Cracker Barrel).  The difference being diners had spectacular views of Pine Mountain and the surrounding area.

  1. I used to put on a balloon festival here in Tampa until they closed off the local airspace and could no longer get permits after 9/11. It is wonderful to see them all launching!
