Thanksgiving in The Great Smoky Mountains   Leave a comment

The past few months have been kind of hectic for me, so a nice drive north to Smoky Mountain National Park was just the thing.  We love to go to the mountains for Thanksgiving.  Unfortunately, so do thousands of other people, but we managed to have a nice Holiday Weekend in spite of the crowds.

We did a couple of first.  At midnight Black Friday were at the Tanger Outlet Mall.  We always stay home and laugh at all the people who do this every year, but this year, there we were.  I have to say, it was fun and we did find some real bargains.  I’m don’t enjoy shopping, but my daughter does, so I went along for the ride.

The other first was our visit to Clingman’s Dome.  We have tried to visit in years past, but weather conditions always had the road closed for vehicles.  This year we made it.  We actually walked the 1/2 STEEP paved trail to the dome.  It took us an hour, but we were very proud of ourselves that we did it and the views were spectacular.  It is the highest point in the Smoky Mountains and in the state of Tennessee. http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/clingmansdome.htm

Enjoy!
