Lunch in the Garden   1 comment

Last Friday was another glorious autumn day.  I decided to get out of the office for lunch and drove over to the Atlanta Botanical Garden.  I walked over to the Rose Garden and sat just drinking in all the beauty around me.

Beautiful Autumn Weekend   1 comment

I drove up to Hohenwald TN last weekend to volunteer at The Elephant Sanctuary.  It was a gorgeous Autumn weekend.  I think I like Autumn better than Spring, but Spring does run a close second.  The leaves are just starting to turn.  By the first weekend in November it will be a riot of fall color.  Just lovely.  I parked at a rest stop on Nickajack Lake near Chattanooga TN on the drive back home.  Here are a few photos.

Tybee Island Lighthouse & Kitties   Leave a comment

Cockspur & Tybee Island Lighthouses were the last 2 we visited last February 2009.  Cockspur is in the water and the ony way to get close to it is by boat.  We took these pics from the Highway bridge.  Tybee Island Lighthouse is beautifully restored.  There are several buildings on the grounds and a gift shop.  While we were there we also enjoyed the company of 2 cats who made themselves at home with all the visitors.

Tybee Island is located only a few miles from Savnnah GA.

Highland Games at Stone Mountain Park – Oct. 19, 2008   Leave a comment

We visited the Highland Games at Stone Mountain Park last Sunday, Oct. 19th.  It was a beautiful autumn day – very sunny.  The highlight for me was the Marching Pipe and Drum Bands.  The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Pipe and Drum band was very impressive.  I am glad we stayed to watch them.  Earlier there was a demonstration of Border Collies with Sheep and Ducks.  The sun was shining directly in my face so I couldn’t get good pics.  Elissa was shopping nearby at the different vendors they had there.  Later on we found a nice shady spot to view the bands.

Afterward we drove around a little bit and found the covered bridge.  It’s very pretty and very popular, especially with couples.   We had dinner at the Mountain View Resteraunt in The Stone Mountain Inn.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

Twilight at Stone Mountain Park   1 comment

We spent the late afternoon and evening in Stone Mountain Park yesterday.  We arrived at the Studdard Picnic area at 4 PM, ate a quick picnic dinner, then headed to the skylift.  The ride up is stunning.  My daughter took video and we will share it later.  The top of the mountain is rocky and uneven, so you must walk very carefully.  There are a few trees and shrubs growing and lots of writings from over the years.  We saw one writing from 1912.  It was a hazy day, so the views from the top of the mountain weren’t clear, but still interesting.

We stayed for the 8PM laser show with fireworks.  Again we have some video which we will share later.  The Civil War sculpture on the side of the mountain is General Robert E. Lee and stands 9 stories tall.

I am also a member of EONS.com and met one of my online friends from the Georgia Friends group.  She recognized me from my pic on the site.  It was a nice evening and our autumn weather is just gorgeous right now.  Enjoy!
